Privacy notice
This site runs no JavaScript, sets no cookies of its own and carries no advertising or analytics tags. The only personal data it handles is an email address you choose to give it.
What this site does not do
It runs no JavaScript. It sets no cookies of its own. It carries no advertising, no affiliate tracking, no social media widgets and no third party analytics tags. There is no tracking pixel in any page and no fingerprinting of any kind.
The only third party request a page makes is to Google Fonts, to load the two typefaces this site uses. If you would rather that request were not made, blocking it leaves the site fully readable in your browser's default fonts.
The newsletter
If you subscribe, this site stores the email address you enter, the date, and a country code supplied by the hosting network. That data is used to send the fortnightly letter and for nothing else. It is never sold, rented, shared with a third party for their own purposes, or used to build a profile.
Every issue carries a one click unsubscribe. Using it removes the address.
Server logs
The hosting infrastructure records ordinary technical information about requests, including IP address, in the course of delivering pages and protecting the site from abuse. This is standard for any website and is retained by the infrastructure provider under its own arrangements. This publication does not use those logs to identify individuals.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to ask what personal data is held about you, to have it corrected, to have it erased, to object to its processing and to receive a copy of it. For this site that amounts, in almost every case, to an email address on a newsletter list, which can be removed instantly by unsubscribing or on request through the contact page.
If you are not satisfied with how a request is handled, you may complain to the Information Commissioner's Office, the UK supervisory authority, at ico.org.uk.
Children
This site is written for adults. It is not directed at children, it does not knowingly collect data from children, and the newsletter is not offered to them.
Changes
If this notice changes materially, the change is recorded on the corrections page along with the date.
One piece of evidence, explained properly, every fortnight
What a piece of research on children and play actually found, what it did not find, and whether it should change anything. No product recommendations, because this publication does not make any.
One sponsored line per issue, marked as sponsored, at a published rate. Nothing else is sold. See newsletter and sponsorship for the rate and for the list of things it cannot buy.
